Loving Samsung Digimax s760 and Doing a 365

After much starving and slaving away (exage), can I just blurt it out without  any preamble, and say “Booyah! I got you my pretty, and your little bag, too!” But then again, I have not exactly recovered from this so called “exage” mode I have been on since God knows when this week. Nevertheless, in case my overly hyper manner of writing confused you, lemme just say, “I finally went ahead and bought my own digital camera.” Now I do not have any more excuses for not posting pictures of my spawn.

What did I get? I got a Samsung Digimax s760. I actually saw the camera at this store in downtown Dumaguete when I was out and about with Ehn and L.A. Upon the advice of the latter, I did a thorough research online to see whether reviews are good enough or not. Suffice to say that the reviews were MORE than satisfactory, to which I shall add my own today.

Dude, the Samsung Digimax s760 is like cheap (cheaper compared to most). You can buy one on Ebay.ph for just around Php. 4,500.00 or roughly $93.00. With that purchase, you get free AA batteries, safety strap, camera case, 1 FREE SD card, installers, and a manual. For my purchase, however, I got a mini tripod to go with it.

One of the things that I love about the Samsung Digimax s760 is that it is, in essence, a point-and-shoot camera but was designed to be an “entry-level” camera. So, yes, it is a “hybrid” as per Zeee’s explanation. Which is swell because it, being an entry-level camera, I get to dabble with some SLR liberties like shutter speed, aperture, and all that blah. I am still learning, so please bear with me.

For a quick recap of goodies in Samsung Digimax s760, the following are presented for your pleasure:

  • 7.2 megapixels
  • Digital Image Stabilization (DIS)
  • 3x Optical Zoom Lens
  • Face Detection
  • Detailed Function Description
  • High Sensitivity ISO 1000
  • Shot effects (B/W, Sepia…)
  • Scene settings: Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Beach, Snow, Night…
  • etc.

What I love, love, love, about my new pet, which I have named “George Burtakoy” (don’t ask), is the fact that for its price, I have really clear pictures. The clarity of the focus even when on zoom or not is quite amazing that I credit all blurry pictures to my epileptic hand. Plus, the colors are quite vivid, and even when in a moving vehicle, the results do not blur out or something (I need to consult Zee regarding this). As a result, I have been asked quite a number of times as to whether or not my camera is a DSLR. *blush* Now you know.

I must admit there is a VERY SLIGHT con with George… He is not exactly the small and compact as he weighs a good 123 g (without batteries and card). Although he would fit in almost all female bags, he is not as slim and light as the PowerShots or Cybershots that I have had the pleasure of toying with. However, I do find the Samsung Digimax s760 is ideal for my large hands. :P For others, I can imagine it to be a bit of a Con for the camera. Oh, and it is not rechargable, but it can run on rechargable batteries.

A lot of my friends know that I have this interest in photography, except that I simply did not have the equipment to indulge in this rather pricey hobby. Since I now have a rockin’ Samsung Digimax s760, I have joined this meme called Project 365. You can see my posts here:

Here is a sample of one of the shots I took in the rain – just because I am a nut.

P.S. I give Samsung Digimax s760 5 golden stars (*****) for making a wannabe professional photographer extremely happy and content with her purchase. ;)

Incidentally, my HFW boss, Pebbles, bought a Samsung ES10 from the guy at ebay.ph selling the Php. 4,500.00 Samsung Digimax s760. Check out her review at her blog in case you might want to consider buying that camera.

  3. @chin: Little Ms Online shopping addict, you can buy this at ebay.ph. There’s this seller who has like a ton of these products, and when you search for “Samsung s760″ you will arrive right at his doorstep. :)
Oh, and thanks for the weight question. I forgot to add that in the review. ;) it actually is a bit fat compared to the other p&s, but small enough to carry around.

@L.A.: hehehe I will bring it next week. ;) thanks for reminding me to look for reviews! ;) I already thanked Ehn for bugging me non-stop to buy it. :P

  4. How did you get him to toss in the tripod? Tips beh! I’ll tell him to give me a discount coz you sent me! :)

  5. Hahaha we’re not that close pa chin. LOL
But actually, I bought the cam somewhere else because at that time the guy did not have a cam for sale and I was impatient. But the purchase cost me a bit more. :) Though that guy that sells the 4,500 said he camera has tie ins with a TV as well… LOL

  6. Just thought of this – battery? So pirmi lang ka buy ug batts for this? Quick ma-drain?

  7. Yeah, battery. You can use the rechargeable alkaline batteries so you can actually save a bit. Battery life does not die that quickly though. :)

  8. How long before you have to replace?

  9. I think it depends on the usage, Chin. Because the batteries I used the first time lasted a little bit more than a week. The second batch of batteries lasted almost two weeks. I am planning to purchase the rechargeable ones so I do not have keep on buying anymore.

  10. Nice one! I’m a certified Project 365 follower.

  11. You have missed one consultation from moi! I do not recommend buying a camera using dry cell, rechargeable or not. However, your shots are beautiful and clear!

  12. @Pebbles: hehehehe thank you!! yipeeee! another follower. teehee

@Tita Ebie: hahahaha :P I would have preferred a camera that is rechargeable tita.. but I have to settle with this for now. :P Next time, imma consult you again. Okies? Thanks for the comment on the shots. It means a lot to me. :) I like your shots a lot.

  13. uhhh the blur thingy? hehehehe ask me about that… you can actually “tuyo” the blur para more dramatic ang effect… hehehehe and go subscribe to digital-photography-school.com kay they have tips didto na chada…and pwede kaayo sa P&S or hybrids not for SLRs only…or you can ask me and I’ll try to help….yahahahahaha even if i have a lot to learn! :)

and btw your cam takes awesome pixies… sayang lang dili rechargable and bat…which is prolly the only con i can think of…and if i knew mao na ang iya battery i would have told u to buy something that comes with its own lithium-ion battery…but whatever…nice gihapon iya kuha maot…i’ve seen it…and commented… nyahahahah

as me again about the blurry thing okayyy?? heheheh

  14. @zriz: i think you already discussed that with me. what i meant by the “blur thingy” is when there is no focus at all.. not exactly the Bokeh effects that I asked you about. But I have experimented on it, and I think I got some good effects – not that I want to show people it yet. :P Hehehe i already signed up there zeee.. coincidentally its where you referred me to check pud.

Oh and yeah, you already told me about not getting the non-rechargeable type last year pa. BUT, I went ahead and bought this because I just wanted to really. LOL

  15. aww okay… nyahahahaha well… i think ka gets ko sa imong gipasabot… sometimes that happens when the cam doesn’t know where to focus! hehehehe try changing your position or the cam’s position, zoom and whatnot….and just so you know…. buy a lot of rechargables! (if there is such a word)

    and i tagged you here

    nyahahahahahaha

  16. wow, great camera! even greater b/c it’s so affordable, hehe ;P
