How hot is it these days? I am sorely tempted to do the “popsicle on the asphalt” test. But then again, that would be such a waste of a perfectly good and yummy popsicle. Why not conduct the test in my mouth?

Teacher Julie of http://www.greenbucks.info, asked us this week as to what we plan to do for summer… or at least what we do during summer.
As mentioned previously, this perhaps is the first summer I noticed since I graduated from high school. This time, I plan to enjoy every minute of it. Now, in our little city of Dumaguete, life is as quaint as quaint can be. Sure, we have the “signs of development” since McDonalds, KFC, Jollibee, and the currently built Robinson’s. Oh, yes. Dumaguete is getting there, but I am definitely loving the relaxed pace that it is moving.
Now for us Dumagueteños, we simply love to hit the beach during the summer. Heck, we love to go to the beach even if it is raining. One of the great things about being in Dumaguete is that you are just a ride away from the beach. Although these are not those fancy-shmancy resorts (but we do have those as well), why should you spend dollars just to enjoy the beach?
During these days of crisis and lack of funds, being in Dumaguete can be such a huge relief. How so? Mainly because if you are in Dumaguete, you can simply spend Php. 8.00 for a pedicab ride to the nearest beach! Once you get to the beach, you pay Php. 10.00 for entrance fee, and if you are not going to use a hut, then you just spread a mat or banig on the ground and just picnic away. D and I have done this several times with the kids.
What D and I usually do is we bring his siblings, his cousins, and the kids to the beach without much preparation. We get a hut and set things up like tunes, the “grill” or sugbaan, put up marinated meat (if any), bring out the chips, bring out the ice cold drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), while somebody goes to the market to buy fresh fish for the grill. While the peeps are doing this, the kiddos frolic in the sun, sand, and sea – with somebody watching them of course.
Throughout the day, we laze around, eat, snooze, and have a nice do-nothing day. By the time the sun has gone a bit lower, we pack up. Lobster red and smelling of salt, we head home and take a nice cold non-salt water bath. It is a guarantee that the kiddos are bushed and so are the parents… but then again, it could extend to a movie night with left-over chips and drinks.
OR
If we are not really in the mood to hit the beach, we can always buy ice cream and watch movies while two fans blast the heat out. Once the sun has lowered a bit and the heat is a bit tolerable, we drag the kiddos to the park and just allow them to run around and play. Now that I’ve got more time on my hands, I think this summertime around, I will have more fun. I don’t care if I become the prettiest red lobster on earth. I will just have to load up on those sunscreen and make sure the kiddos have them on as well.
Weeeeee I am definitely loving summer.
We just have to remember to have: sunscreen, lots of water, and enough cooling! With the PAG-ASA prediction of the heat rising up to 40 degrees, we need to keep ourselves cool and adequately watered. LOL.

What are the summer fun activities you do with your family?
Wow, you summer is already planned. As for me and hubby, we have no plans of getting anywhere yet. We are busy planning for the children’s arrival back to Bacolod and getting a new house.
I am sure your kiddos would love the beach!
I love the idea of spending a day at the beach with loved ones
And the banig thing, well, that is more like my style, lol! I may even bring a tent with me, hehehe!
I hope the town’s charm will not be forgotten and your place wold not become too city for your comfort
Enjoy the rest of the week!
Thanks!
